Credit Repair That Can Generate A Differentiation

By Julia A Flores

Right now there are more people struggling with credit than ever before. The present monetary recession has affected many people with earnings reductions due to job losses or changes, health care woes and the incapacity to borrow required money for small businesses and more. It has been complex for many people. Many individuals who have never had monetary difficulties in the past are having them now.

Even though many individuals have plunging credit scores the fact is that many people do not in reality appreciate just what is considered in a credit score. For instance, if you shop for credit and there are inquiries on your credit report it will truly lower your chances of being able to obtain that credit because with every inquiry a credit score goes down.

Another factor that many individuals are not conscious of is the debt to credit ratios. A debt to credit ratio is the amount of credit accessible compared to the amount of debt used. In order to have the peak scores it is important to have very little debt compared to how much credit you are approved of and have accessible to you. A smart consumer will keep their debt level at 20% or below the obtainable line of credit.

You also have the right to dispute any questionable credit listings that are showing on your credit report. Many reports include mistaken information and because of that Congress passed a law called the Fair Credit Reporting Act back in'70. This law governs the collection, assembly and dissemination of individual personal credit information. It is under this law that a consumer can dispute and contest anything on a credit report and perhaps get it deleted.

Under the Federal Credit Reporting Act a consumer also has a right to collect one free credit report each year from all of the three major credit-reporting bureaus. It is not essential to sign up for any credit monitoring services in order to receive the free report you need only contact the credit bureaus directly and you will get your credit report.

Educated consumers will take advantage of this free report to check things out at least once per year to make sure that everything is correct. Credit reports are very unstable and errors show up often. It is predicted that as many as 75% of all reports have repairable mistakes.

Once you have identified mistakes and errors you have the right to dispute them. You must mail in a certified letter that states your case and why you believe the information should be removed. If you have any type of paperwork that is evidence, include copies of it also. Once the credit bureaus have received the letter they then have 30 days in which to either validate the listing or erase it from the credit report.

There are also other things you can do to improve your credit. You can pay down debt to improve your debt to credit ratio or you could also get your credit limit raised. You can evade inquiries into your report and of course, you can make sure that all of the credit that you now have is being handled appropriately. - 31377
