Simple Steps to Get Out of Debt

By Dave Berone

The first step to pay off debt is to acknowledge it as a problem. People don't realize how powerful this step is but once you admit it, you are well on your way to solving the problem.

Many have tremendous success by cutting their credit cards up. In theory, it works out the same but it's really effect in reality because it's very cumbersome to buy something with cash all the time as you have to go to the ATM first.

Put the credit cards into a bucket of water and freeze the whole container. This way, you will have to wait at least a few hours before you can buy anything big, which will probably kill all your impulse buying desires.

The great thing about making a budget is the fact that you can actually see how much you are spending on miscellaneous things that don't matter at all to your overall life. Once you realize how much you waste, you will spend much less.

Instead of paying off your debt without a plan, those that try to pay off the smallest balance first actually have the greatest success. There's really something about being able to cross off a debt payment.

If you want to spend less, try to cut off all the advertising in your life. Those evil commercials are fun to watch but all they do is make you spend more. The more you watch them, the more you are going to get into debt.

Sell everything as soon as you don't need them. Most products lose value the older they are, not to mention the times when you finally decide to sell and a new version of the same thing comes up.

Tell your friends and family how much of your debt you will pay off each month. Adding accountability into your plan will ensure that you stick to the plan more effectively.

More income still gives you the best ability to pay off your debt so try to look for a part time job. You don't have to make a lot of money each month but even a few hundred dollars can make a huge difference.

Every time you have a bonus, put all the money into debt repayment. You won't notice the difference since you never got to spend it but your interests sure will drastically be reduced. - 31377
